Janet Hammond

The Strumstick- 30 x 30 oil on canvas
images"My paintings are about my life experience -everyday surroundings, people in my life, places I have been, things I have seen. They begin with an emotional reaction to the subject, usually brought on by some abstract quality such as shape, line, color or negative shapes. Light usually comes into play. I am fascinated by the way light shapes form, the patterns of shadows and those neutral tones within the shadows. I work from life, sketches and notes, photos, memory, imagination or a combination of all of these things. I try to stay true to my initial reaction to the subject, and the painting tells me when it is finished." --J. Hammond 2005
